Preservation Durham to host tours of historic Old Maplewood Cemetery

Preservation Durham, a nonprofit devoted to historic preservation, will host guided tours of Durham’s Old Maplewood Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The cemetery, located at 815 Kent St., was recently designated on the National Register of Historic Places. It was established in the 1870s as Durham’s first public amenity and is the city’s first public space and first planned space.

Tour guides from Preservation Durham will lead multiple tours throughout the day. Each loop takes approximately 75 minutes and three loops typically run concurrently.

Tickets are valid for the entire day and allow for re-entry.  Preservation Durham members can attend for free, while general admission is $15 for early registrants and $20 on the day of the event.

Tickets and more information are available on Preservation Durham’s website.
