DPS announces key Central Services appointments

Durham Public Schools has announced several key administrative appointments, as new Superintendent Anthony Lewis restructures the district’s leadership team.

Tanya Giovanni, who has served as the district’s chief of staff since 2018, will step into the role of deputy superintendent for administrative, legal and compliance services. She will provide oversight for cabinet-level departments, including human resources, finance and operations. She will serve as a representative for the superintendent and the liaison between the board attorney and district staff. Giovanni earned a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University, a Juris Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis and a doctorate from Liberty University.

Larry Webb will join DPS as chief operating officer on Dec. 9.  Webb has served as chief of auxiliary services for Franklin County Schools since 2016, and has also served as a principal and assistant principal. Webb earned a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University, a master’s degree from Pembroke State University and a doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Paul Mijumbi, currently the district’s director of IT operations, has been named Interim executive director for information technology, effective Oct. 26. Mijumbi has served the district in a number of IT roles since 2013, and currently manages the IT department’s $10.7 million budget. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda and a master’s degree from Capella University.
