The Innovation Project, a collaborative working group of North Carolina public school district leaders, has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships for aspiring principals in small school districts.
The program, called Recruitment, Retention and Promotion of Effective Educators, covers the full cost of the two-year master’s degree program in school administration at North Carolina Central University, as well as salary for participants to serve in their second year as principal interns
The inaugural class includes 16 educators from project member districts across the state. Funding for the scholarship is provided by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and a N.C. Department of Public Instruction program.
Recipients commit to a five-year service obligation.
