Lufthansa’s first Frankfurt flight takes off from RDU

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is now home to a new international airline, Lufthansa. The German carrier began nonstop service from RDU to Frankfurt on Thursday.

Lufthansa is the third Star Alliance member airline to serve RDU, after United Airlines and Air Canada.

Conversations between RDU and Lufthansa began in 2014, said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority.

The new 4,277 mile flight from RDU to Frankfurt will be served by a 255-seat Airbus A330-300.
