County finalizing 2025 reappraisal

Durham County is in the final stages of completing its 2025 general reappraisal, according to a news release from the county.

North Carolina state law requires all counties to reappraise property every eight years.

Durham’s last reappraisal took effect in 2019. While Durham County had transitioned to a four-year cycle, various challenges, including the pandemic, a cyberattack and new software implementation, have impacted the schedule.

Reappraisals are necessary to address changes in property values over time, ensuring a fair distribution of the tax burden.

Over the past year, Durham County Tax Administration staff has been conducting field measurements and reviewing property characteristics to verify accuracy against tax records. Discrepancies are being corrected during this process.

Property owners will receive written notification of their 2025 appraisal value in February. The county’s Tax Administration will provide further information in the coming weeks, including details on bill mailing dates, information review procedures and appeal processes.

More details about the reappraisal are available on the county’s website.
