Durham County will award up to $400,000 in grants to local organizations working to enhance food security in the area.
The county’s Food Security Grants Program aims to strengthen efforts that reach Durham’s most vulnerable residents and improve the social safety net.
The application period for the grants opens Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. Applications are due by 3 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2025.
To be eligible for a grant, organizations must be a nonprofit or be fiscally sponsored by a nonprofit. Organizations must also be actively working in communities within Durham County, with a focus on improving food security or addressing the root causes of food insecurity.
Communities in Partnership, a Black women-led and founded community organization, is administering the program for the second year.
Past projects funded by the program have included purchasing refrigeration equipment to increase fresh produce distribution, expanding food pantries to serve at-risk populations and community gardens.
More information is available on the program’s website.
