RDU awarded $12 million federal grant for expansion

Raleigh-Durham International Airport has been awarded $12 million in federal funding to support its Terminal 2 expansion project.

The funding, granted by the Federal Aviation Administration under the FY 2025 Airport Terminal Program, will be used to improve the Terminal 2 ticketing check-in area, baggage claim areas, security checkpoint and international arrival processing area.

The project will also focus on enhancing accessibility, with new and modernized restroom facilities and reconstructed arrival and departure curbs to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

According to a news release from Rep. Valerie Foushee, a Democrat who represents Durham and Chapel Hill, RDU led the nation in growth in 2023, serving 14.5 million passengers. This year, the airport has already seen a 10.5% increase in passenger traffic, with over 967,600 travelers passing through the airport in September alone.
