The City of Durham is searching for an artist or team to create a public art piece at Birchwood Park, 3105 Hursey St.
The city’s Cultural and Public Art Program, in partnership with Durham Parks and Recreation, is seeking an artist with experience in community-based projects. The selected artist will be responsible for collaborating through in-person engagement sessions and surveys.
The goal of the project is to create artwork that reflects the community and the park’s history and culture. The artist will work with people in the area, city staff and the Birchwood Park neighborhood to develop designs that beautify the park’s basketball court and other areas.
The selected artist or artist team will receive a budget of $158,000 for the project. Interested artists can apply through the Request for Interest on the city’s website.
