Residents can safely dispose of pesticides at collection event

Residents of Durham and surrounding counties can safely dispose of unwanted pesticides at a free collection event on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in partnership with Durham County Cooperative Extension, is hosting the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension offices, 721 Foster St.

The event aims to help agricultural producers, farmers and homeowners safely dispose of various pesticides, including banned and outdated products. The program cannot accept pesticides from dealerships or businesses.

Residents with unlabeled pesticides or with liquid pesticide containers larger than 5 gallons should contact John Lyttle at the Cooperative Extension office before bringing them to the event.

More information is available on the county’s website.
