Bridge construction to cause delays and closures on Alston, Angier

Motorists in Durham should expect delays and road closures on Alston and Angier avenues due to ongoing bridge construction.

Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of each road so crews can install bridge girders at the Norfolk Southern Railway and Pettigrew Street bridges, according to a news release from the department.

Water and sewer construction will also take place at the intersection of Angier Avenue and Alston Avenue.

Work began on Monday, Oct. 7, and will take place nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The department expects work to be completed by Oct. 25. No work is expected to take place on weekends.

Traffic on Alston Avenue will be rerouted onto  N.C. 147, leading to Fayetteville Street and Main Street. Traffic on Angier Avenue will take Main Street to Hyde Park Avenue.

Transportation officials urge motorists to plan ahead, stay alert, and obey all posted traffic signs.
