The city’s Department of Water Management has received its second Sustained Excellence Award from the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program.
WaterSense is a voluntary partnership program between the EPA and manufacturers, retailers and distributors, homebuilders, irrigation professionals and utilities. The program provides a label recognizing water-efficient products and resources.
In a news release announcing the awards, the EPA cited Durham’s new Fix a Leak Week campaign, “Every Drop Counts,” and a film trailer released on social media called “The Haunting of Dripmore Manor,” which featured a spooky narrative highlighting the consequences of wasteful water habits.
According to the EPA, the Durham department also issued 423 rebates for WaterSense labeled toilets in 2023, helping customers save an estimated 2.2 million gallons of water.
This is Durham’s second Sustained Excellence Award and ninth consecutive award from EPA WaterSense.
