Durham to observe Minority Enterprise Development Week in October

The City of Durham and Durham County will commemorate Minority Enterprise Development week Oct. 14 to 18.

The weeklong observance will feature a series of programs designed to help minority entrepreneurs and business professionals meet each other, gain insights and advance their businesses, the city and county said in a joint news release.

The deadline to register for any event during the week is Oct. 3.

  • Monday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Historically Underutilized Business Certification Day
    • The North Carolina Department of Administration’s Office of Historically Underutilized Businesses will help attendees navigate the certification process.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 1 p.m to 4 p.m.: Business Fair
    • The fair is designed to connect minority and women-owned businesses with companies that have subcontracting and small business opportunities.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 16: Support a Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Day
    • The Durham community is encouraged to support minority- and women-owned businesses.
  • Thursday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Keynote and Luncheon
    • Keisha Rivers, president and chief change officer of The Kars Group, will deliver a keynote address, followed by a luncheon that will provide networking opportunities for attendees.
