Habitat for Humanity of Durham will build 10 new affordable homes in Durham’s Southside neighborhood.
Durham Habitat purchased the land — two and a half acres adjacent to Mount Vernon Baptist Church in the Hayti district — from the church.
The partnership is intended to serve as a model for other organizations in the community and create conversation about innovative land use, according to a release from Durham Habitat.
The two organizations will host a neighborhood kickoff celebration on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at 211 E. Umstead St. The event will include remarks from both partners, and participants will raise a wall on the first home site.
