Durham man charged in storage unit break-ins

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on Thursday, charging him in several break-ins at a storage facility on Angier Avenue.

Derek Roland Erber, 38, was charged with 34 counts of possession of stolen goods, 18 counts of breaking and entering, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of possession of burglary tools and one count of felony conspiracy. He is being held at the Durham County Detention Facility without bond.

According to a news release, the sheriff’s office responded to a call on July 30 from a storage facility on the 3800 block of Angier Avenue, where the property manager indicated several units had been broken into. An investigation led to the identification of Erber as a possible suspect and the location of some of the stolen items.

On Thursday, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Weldon Terrace in Durham. The warrant led to the recovery of items that were taken from the Angier Avenue facility and other suspected stolen items.

The sheriff’s office is investigating and asks anyone with information to call 919-560-0880.
