The Duke Lemur Center has added eight new infants to its roster.
Triplets Ficus, Monstera and Pothos are the newest arrivals. Born to mom Fauna at the end of May, the three gray mouse lemurs are named after common houseplants. The Duke Lemur Center houses one of the only gray mouse lemur breeding colonies in the country.
The center also welcomed three ring-tailed lemurs this year: Eowyn and Merry, named for characters from the “Lord of the Rings” series, were born to parents Sierra Mist and Licinus in March, and Cirilla, named for a character from “The Witcher” series was born in April.
Two lemurs from the Coquerel’s sifaka species—Pax, born in January, and Albus, born in December—round out the roster.
The Duke Lemur Center is a non-invasive research center housing over 200 lemurs and bush babies across 13 species. The center is open to the public and welcomes more than 35,000 visitors annually.
More information on each of the infants is available on the Lemur Center’s website.
