A new electric vehicle charging company, IONNA, has selected Durham County for its global headquarters.
The company, a joint venture of seven major automakers, will design, build and operate a new EV charging network with the aim of increasing EV adoption across North America. The company says its network will support electric vehicles of all brands.
The new headquarters will include a customer experience lab for research and development of the software and hardware needed to create a network of more than 30,000 EV chargers.
The state of North Carolina approved a Job Development Investment Grant to support IONNA’s operation in Durham. The Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to consider a local award to supplement the JDIG award at a future meeting.
IONNA is a joint venture of BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis.
