Property taxes due Jan. 6

The deadline to pay Durham County property taxes is Monday, Jan. 6, the county reminded residents in a news release.

Failure to pay tax bills by the deadline could result in interest, fees, liens and collection enforcement actions.

Taxpayers can pay their bills online through the Durham County Tax Administration’s Tax Bill Search portal.

Payments can also be mailed by using the payment stub included with the tax bill, or by sending a check payable to the Durham County Tax Collector at PO Box 580240, Charlotte, NC 28258-0240. Taxpayers mailing checks should include their account number and parcel ID.

In-person payments are accepted at the Tax Administration Office, located on the third floor of Administration Building II, 201 East Main St.

Property owners can also pay their taxes using their checking account information through an e-check option, with no convenience fee, or with a credit or debit card, subject to a convenience fee.

The Durham County Tax Administration encourages property owners to explore available relief programs, including the Elderly/Disabled/Homestead Exemption, Circuit Breaker-Elderly/Disabled Deferment Program and Disabled Veteran Exclusion. Low-income, long-term homeowners may also qualify for assistance through the Durham County Low-Income Homeowners Relief Program.
