City, county announce Veterans Day schedules

Most city and county offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency city facilities and operations, will close to the public on Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. However, several services will remain open or operate on modified schedules.

Here’s what’s open and closed:

Open:

  • Downtown parking will be free for on-street parking, in some city-owned garages, and in city-owned surface lots
  • GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS will operate regular weekday service
  • Unincorporated Durham County roadside recycling will maintain the regular schedule
  • Durham County Sheriff’s Office patrol division
  • Residents may drop off soil sample boxes and pick up sample supplies from the outside station in the blue box to the right of the Durham County Cooperative Extension Building, 721 Foster St.
  • The Water Management Department’s after-hours emergency number, 919-560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews for water main break and sewer overflows

Closed:

  • City offices, including City Hall
  • Most Durham County offices
  • All three Durham County solid waste and recycling convenience sites
  • All Durham County Library locations
  • Durham County Department of Public Health
  • Durham County Department of Social Services
  • Durham County Sheriff’s Administration and Records Division
  • Durham County Cooperative Extension
  • Solid Waste Management Department
  • Curbside collections for garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be delayed by one business day. Friday yard waste customers will receive collections on Nov. 18
  • The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility and the Household Hazardous Waste Center
  • Durham Parks and Recreation administrative offices
  • Durham One Call
  • Park Durham Customer Service Center

Durham County will host its 13th annual Veterans Day Recognition and Celebration at 11 a.m. inside Conference Rooms B and C on the second floor of the county’s Human Services Building, 414 E. Main St.
