City offers pumpkin, jack-o’-lantern disposal options

The City of Durham and Keep Durham Beautiful are making it easy for residents to dispose of their pumpkins and squash this November with several designated drop-off locations.

Starting November 2, residents can drop off whole or carved, but unpainted, pumpkins and squash every Saturday in November from 8 a.m. to noon at six city parks.

The drop-off locations are C.M. Herndon Park, Valley Springs Park, Rock Quarry Park, Southern Boundaries Park, Bethesda Park, and Campus Hills. The city’s composting contractor will collect and compost the pumpkins and squash.

Only unpainted pumpkins and squash are accepted. Decorations, candles and glitter are not permitted.

Residents can also dispose of their pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns at no charge at the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, located at 2115 E. Club Blvd., from Nov. 2 to Dec. 7 during business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
