Long Meadow Pool shuts down for good

Long Meadow Pool is permanently closing because it was determined to be structurally unsound, Durham Parks and Recreation announced.

The city had announced last summer that the pool would be closed due to structural concerns. After internal and external inspections, the city determined to permanently close the pool and schedule it to be demolished.

Concept designs have been created for two new pools in Durham, at East End Park and at the former Wheels Family Fun Center. The city plans to improve Long Meadow Park with athletic courts, recreation features and green spaces. The R. Kelly Bryant Bridge Trail will unite East End and Long Meadow parks.

In light of the closure, Durham Parks and Recreation said it plans to host additional water activities throughout the summer.
