Durham secures federal funding for fair housing efforts

Durham has received a $123,600 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to continue its Fair Housing Program for the next year.

The program, administered by the city’s Neighborhood Improvement Services Department, enforces local and fair housing laws and combats housing discrimination.

The grant will fund staff salaries, operating costs and expenses associated with mandatory staff training and community outreach activities. The program investigates housing discrimination complaints, conducts fair housing outreach, provides training on fair housing laws and sponsors fair housing events.
