Durham County will soon launch a guaranteed income program that will provide $750 per month for one year to 125 randomly selected low-income families.
The program, called DCo Thrives, is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and will be administered by Durham Children’s Initiative, a local nonprofit. It will employ a randomized control trial methodology to study the impact of guaranteed income payments.
To be eligible, applicants should live in Durham County, be 18 or older, parent a child under the age of 18 and have a household income at or below 30% of the area’s median income. Applicants will be selected at random.
An additional 125 families will be randomly selected to participate in a monthly survey for 12 months. These families will receive $100 for each completed survey.
Applications will open soon. More information about the program is available online.
