City invites artists to design public art for Crest Street Park

Durham’s Cultural and Public Art Program is seeking artists to design and install a work of public art at Crest Street Park, 2503 Crest St.

The chosen artist will work closely with the community to create a piece that reflects the park’s history and cultural significance.

The park spans 6.83 acres and includes a baseball and softball field, playground, basketball court and the W.I. Patterson Recreation Center.

The selected artists will receive an estimated budget of up to $46,000. This budget is inclusive of all costs associated with the project, including artist fees, fabrication, installation, community engagement and documentation.

The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m.  Interested artists must submit their proposals through the online application. Potential applicants can attend a virtual pre-submittal meeting on Monday, Jan. 6, at 6:00 p.m.

More information about the project is available on the city’s website.
