Durham Public Schools announced today that it will ask parents to continue transporting their children to school one day per week through Friday, Jan. 17.
The decision to extend the plan comes as the district continues to face a shortage of bus drivers, according to a news release.
As reported by The 9th Street Journal in November, a shortage of bus drivers led DPS to implement the plan, which the district refers to as “rotational bus service.”
When the approach was announced, district officials said they expected it to last until Dec. 20.
“The best answer we can give you is that we sincerely hope this is a short-term fix,” said Larry Webb, the district’s new chief operating officer, at the time.
The Durham Board of Education will meet on Dec. 19 to discuss transportation options, and any decisions regarding long-term solutions will be communicated following the meeting, the release said.
