Durham Holiday Parade to return to Main Street

The annual Durham Holiday Parade will make its way down Main Street on Saturday, Dec. 14, starting at 10 a.m. at South Dillard Street, city officials said.

Presented by WellCare, the parade is a partnership with the City of Durham and Durham Parks and Recreation.

City Manager Wanda Page will be the parade marshal. After 37 years of service, Page announced her retirement earlier this year. She will lead the Durham Holiday Parade as one of her final official acts.

The parade, which dates to the 1940s, features hometown bands, drill teams, schools and community groups. Kids can also expect a special visit from Santa Claus.

There will be two food trucks along the parade route: Quench 305 and Magnificent Concessions.

Free parking for the parade will be available in nearby parking garages: Chapel Hill Street, Corcoran Street parking garage, Church Street parking garage, Durham Centre parking garage and Morgan Rigsbee parking garage.

Temporary restroom stations will be located near the intersections of Hood and Main streets, Chapel Hill and Main streets and Duke and Main streets.

Parade-goers are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to sit on during the event.
