The Stanford L. Warren Branch of the Durham County Library will host a grand reopening event on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m.
As previously reported by The 10th Street Journal, the library, at 1201 Fayetteville St., closed in August 2021 for structural repairs and interior renovations.
The library opened at its current location in 1940, but was founded in 1916 as the Durham Colored Library. It began with Aaron McDuffie Moore’s 1913 donation of 799 books that today make up the Selena Warren Wheeler Special Collection.
The reopening event will feature a talk by the great-granddaughter of Moore, Eileen Watts Welch. The talk is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Durham Library.
Patrons will be able to check out items during the reopening event, but public computers and printing will not be available until Friday, Dec. 13.
