Firefighters get immersive training with new video game

The Durham Fire Department is utilizing a new virtual tool, “Into the Flames,” to enhance the training of firefighters in command and communication skills during emergencies.

The simulator provides realistic visuals and sounds, replicating conditions experienced in actual situations, according to the city.

The training program focuses on critical skills such as incident command, radio communications, unit positioning and overall incident operations.  The game allows for a wide range of scenarios and structures, making it a versatile and cost-efficient training solution.

The fire department uses a custom model of the game, but the platform is also accessible to the public.
