After record-breaking Labor Day, RDU gears up for holiday travel

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is anticipating a busy holiday travel season following a busy October and record-breaking Labor Day weekend, the airport said in a news release.

Nearly 1.4 million passengers traveled through the airport in October, marking a 9% increase compared to September.

RDU also set a record for Labor Day weekend traffic, with more than 188,000 travelers between Friday, Aug. 30 and Monday, Sept. 2. This represents a 7% increase over the previous year.

The airport expects Thanksgiving travel volume to be similar to 2023, when more than 400,000 travelers passed through its gates. RDU advises travelers to arrive two hours early for domestic flights and three hours in advance for international flights.
