Groundbreaking ceremony marks start of new School of the Arts

The Durham Public Schools Board of Education held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Durham School of the Arts today, Nov. 8.

The event was held at the school’s new site, 3000 Duke Homestead Road.

Speakers included Superintendent Anthony Lewis, chair of the DPS board of education Millicent Rogers, chair of the board of county commissioners Nida Allam and representatives from the construction and architecture firms working on the new school.

An analysis published in The 9th Street Journal in August found the new Durham School of the Arts on track to be the most expensive public middle or high school built in the Triangle area and likely the state.
