Parks and Rec invites older adults to Motown-themed party

Durham Parks and Recreation will host its 52nd Annual Senior Holiday Party on Friday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The event, open to residents aged 55 and older, will take place at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, 4700 Emperor Blvd.

Themed “The Magic of Motown,” the party will feature DJ Wisdom Beats playing classic songs from artists such as Diana Ross & the Supremes, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles and Stevie Wonder. The event will also feature live performances by The Divas and Dude, a photo booth and raffle prizes.

Dinner will be served, and WRAL News anchor Ken Smith will emcee the event. 

Tickets are $15 for city residents and $20 for non-city residents.  Sales begin Friday, Nov. 1, and will continue until Dec. 5 or until the event sells out.  Tickets can be purchased online, at Durham Parks and Recreation recreation centers between Nov. 4 and Nov. 17 or at the Durham Parks and Recreation Administration Building, 400 Cleveland St., between Nov. 1 and Dec. 5. 

Free transportation is available for the event but must be reserved by Nov. 26.  For those interested in transportation, inquiries can be made at the time of ticket purchase.
