After extensive renovations, the Stanford L. Warren Branch Library, will reopen to the public on Dec. 12.
The library, at 1201 Fayetteville St., has been closed for over three years undergoing structural repairs and interior upgrades. It will also open with new furniture, shelving and amenities.
The branch was founded in 1916 as the Durham Colored Library, the second Black library in North Carolina. In 1939, the library received funding from Dr. Stanford Leigh Warren to purchase its current location and was named in his honor.
The library became part of Durham’s integrated public library system in 1966.
