Updated COVID-19 vaccines are now available at the Durham County Department of Public Health, the department announced.
The 2024-2025 vaccine formulas, manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna, are available for people ages six months and older.
Due to limited supply, vaccines are only available by appointment. Appointments can be made by calling the health department at 919-560-7608.
Vaccination is covered by most private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, the department said. It is available at no cost for people who do not have insurance, but those with insurance should bring their insurance card to their appointment.
Novavax vaccines are not currently available, the department said.
The updated vaccines were authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in August 2024 to target current variants and provide better protection against serious consequences of COVID-19.
More information is available on the Durham health department’s website and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website.
