Local chefs & poets to battle it out at “Sunday Smash & Slam”

Three local chefs will compete in a burger cook-off while slam poets perform odes to their culinary creations in an event called “Sunday Smash & Slam!” on Oct. 6 from 2 to 5 p.m at PS37, 600 Foster St.

The event, organized by Weird Productions, will feature chefs Aaron Benjamin of Gocciolina, Wyatt Dickson of Picnic and Brandon Chaney of Weird Burgers. Each chef will prepare their best burger, which will then be paired with a poem by a local slam poet.

The entries will be judged by three local celebrity judges: Zachary Eanes of Axios, Preeti Waas of Cheeni and Lindsay Wrege of 321 Coffee.

Tickets are available online and include a slider from each contender, a drink ticket and poetry performances. A percentage of ticket sales will be donated to support the arts community in Western North Carolina. Readers of The 9th Street Journal can use the discount code “9thStreet” to receive 20% off.
