The Durham County Open Space Program, which works to preserve and protect land in Durham County, will host a volunteer workday on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the New Hope Creek Bottomlands Trail.
Participants will help staff with a habitat restoration project by removing invasive plants and planting native species.
The New Hope Bottomlands forest area is home to some of the most biologically significant and imperiled natural areas in central North Carolina, according to Open Space.
The volunteer workday is part of a Triangle-wide 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance organized by Raleigh-based nonprofit organization Activate Good. The event is open to ages 3 and older, but participants under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is available online.
