Parks and Rec provides updates on temporary closures

The city’s parks and recreation department has provided updates on temporary closures affecting its facilities.

The Millhouse at West Point on the Eno has closed due to a fallen tree. Urban Forestry is leading the effort to remove multiple hazardous trees in the area. No re-opening date has yet been announced.

Lyon Park’s parking lot will be closed temporarily from Sept. 3-17 while the city performs soil analysis of the park’s playground. Street parking and pedestrian access will still be available on Cornell Street during this time.

The Old Chapel Hill Road Park turf field will be closed through early December. Work began on Aug. 30 to replace the turf, and the city says the replacement will take approximately 100 days.

More information about the status of parks and playgrounds in Durham may be found on the city’s website.
