Traditional-calendar DPS students begin classes today

Durham students attending traditional-calendar schools began a new academic year today.

Anthony Lewis, the district’s new superintendent who was sworn in Aug. 12, planned to visit two schools this morning, according to a release from the district.

Lewis was set to join teachers and administrators in greeting students at Murray-Massenburg Elementary School, 3901 S. Roxboro St., before visiting Neal Middle School, 201 Baptist Rd. to welcome students before classes began.

The district said he would then return to Murray-Massenburg for a tour of the new facility.
