Parks and Rec to host full moon hike at West Point on the Eno

Durham’s Parks and Recreation department will host a hike at West Point on the Eno on Monday, Aug. 19, to celebrate the full moon.

According to NASA, August’s full moon will be a rare “supermoon,” so called because the moon will be within 90% of its closest approach to Earth. It is also  the third full moon in a season with four full moons, known as a “blue moon.”.

Guides on the hike, which will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m., will share historical facts about the park and investigate animal habitats, according to the department.

West Point on the Eno is a 404-acre natural and historic park on a two-mile stretch of the Eno River. The hike is open to adults only and pre-registration is required.
