Two new members will join the Durham Public Schools Board of Education on July 1, each starting a four-year term.
Wendell Tabb, a 35-year teaching veteran, retired from Hillside High School as the school’s drama director. He is the president and artistic director of the Triangle Performance Ensemble, a community-based theater company in Durham. He received a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Education and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from North Carolina Central University.
Joy Harrell is an educator and performing artist who currently serves as the executive director and visionary conductor of BUMP: The Triangle, which began in Boston as the Boston Urban Music Project. She has received degrees in music, theater and education from North Carolina Central University, University of Northern Iowa and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Tabb and Harrell will be sworn in on Monday, July 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fuller administration building, 511 Cleveland Street.
