City, county announce July Fourth schedules

Most city and county offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency city facilities and operations, will close to the public on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. However, several services will remain open or operate on modified schedules.

Here’s what’s open and closed:

Open:

  • Athletic fields and picnic shelters are available for rent
  • Outdoor pools and spraygrounds
  • Downtown parking will be free for on-street parking, in some city-owned garages, and in city-owned surface lots
  • GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS  will offer Sunday-level service
  • Unincorporated Durham County roadside recycling will maintain the regular schedule
  • Durham County Sheriff’s Office patrol division

Closed:

  • City offices, including City Hall
  • Most Durham County offices
  • All three Durham County solid waste and recycling convenience sites
  • All Durham County Library locations
  • Durham County Department of Public Health
  • Durham County Department of Social Services
  • Durham County Sheriff’s Administration and Records Division
  • Solid Waste Management Department
  • Curbside collections for garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be delayed by one business day
  • The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility and the Household Hazardous Waste Center
  • Durham Parks and Recreation administrative offices
  • Durham One Call
  • Durham County Cooperative Extension
  • Park Durham Customer Service Center

As The 10th Street Journal previously reported, the city is hosting a July Fourth Celebration with the Durham Bulls, with gates opening for general admission at the end of the seventh inning.
