Durham Public Schools is seeking community input on a name for a new early college high school focused on health sciences.
The school, expanded from the current Middle College High School at Durham Tech, will include grades 9-13 and offer students the opportunity to earn an associate degree in addition to a high school diploma. The district says the school will focus on four areas of health science: nursing, allied health, surgical technology and clinical research.
Students will interact with Duke Health professionals throughout their high school experience and will have opportunities to move directly into jobs with Duke Health. The school will welcome its first class in August 2025.
Potential names for the new early college include: Health Science Early College, The Early College of Health Sciences at Durham Tech, Health Careers Early College, Early College for Health and Science, Durham Early College for Medical Sciences and Durham Early College for Health Science. Residents are asked to vote for a name through an online survey.
