CIAA Football Championship to return to Durham

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the nation’s first and longest-running African-American athletic conference, has selected Durham to host the CIAA Football Championship from 2025 to 2027.

Bids were also submitted by the cities of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Salem, Virginia. Selection criteria included facility use and staffing, team support, opportunities for community engagement and involvement of the local business community.

Durham hosted the CIAA Football Championship from 2008 to 2012 and 2014 to 2015. The city also has hosted the CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship with a three-year contract that ends in 2025.

Durham County Memorial Stadium, which will host the event, was built in 1958 and has undergone renovations in recent years. The 8,500-seat stadium is the home of Northern High School Football and Tobacco Road Football Club.
