New chancellor elected at North Carolina Central University

The University of North Carolina Board of Governors has elected Karrie G. Dixon as the 13th chancellor of North Carolina Central University. Her term will begin July 1.

Dixon currently serves as the chief executive officer and chancellor of Elizabeth City State University, where she was appointed in December 2018.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University, a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a doctorate from North Carolina State University.

“Being a part of this incredible community of scholars, innovators and leaders on the sloping hills and verdant green is a dream come true,” Dixon said in a statement. “I can’t wait to engage with all the possibilities that Durham has to offer.”

Dixon has held a variety of leadership roles in higher education since 2008. She has received several awards and recognition for her work, including the Old North State Award from the state of North Carolina.
