County commissioners to vote on new budget

The Durham Board of County Commissioners will vote on a new budget for the next fiscal year at their regular meeting on Monday, June 10.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting in person or virtually. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the commissioners’ chambers on the second floor of the Administration I Building at 200 E. Main Street.

As The 9th Street Journal previously reported, the county manager has proposed a budget of $955 million for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget includes a $13 million increase for Durham Public Schools, but falls $14 million short of the school board’s request. The funding shortfall is attributed to slowing revenue growth, higher service demands and increased costs.

Residents are invited to deliver comments on agenda items in person or virtually. All speakers must give their full name and address to speak.
