Seeing purple?

If you think you noticed an odd violet hue to some Durham streetlights lately, you are not seeing things.

A manufacturing glitch causes some LED bulbs to shine purple, Duke Energy says. When white coating fades on them, lavender-leaning light shines through.

Some people are inspired by the color shift. But not Duke Energy. Utility staff are hustling to bring back white light.

9th Street’s Nicole Kagan reports on the scale of this purple haze and how people can help Duke Energy find and replace defective bulbs.
