July 4th celebrations around Durham

  • Red, White, and Brew Freedom Festival at ZincHouse

    • A free, family-friendly celebration featuring live music and a host of food trucks. A fireworks show at dusk.

    • Families are welcome to decorate bikes, tricycles, wagons and strollers using items from the Scrap Exchange. Popsicles and fire truck tours will be available after the event.
  • Watts Hospital-Hillandale Independence Day Parade and Celebration
    • July 4, 10 a.m., 2200 W. Club Blvd.
    • A parade of bikes, tricycles, strollers and wagons, escorted by police motorcycles and a fire truck.
  • Frederick Douglass Community Reading at Stagville
    • July 4, 10 am. to 11:30 a.m., 5828 Old Oxford Hwy.
    • A group reading of Frederick Douglass’s “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July” address. The event is free and open to the public.
  • July 4th Poolside Cookout at The Patio at Unscripted
    • July 4, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., Unscripted Durham
    • A 21+ event featuring a DJ, food and cocktails. 
  • July 4th Cookout on The Roof
    • July 4, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., The Durham Hotel
