Input sought for funding in underserved neighborhoods

Residents of Durham are invited to vote on funding for infrastructure projects in historically underserved neighborhoods.

The city’s Equitable and Green Infrastructure program funds projects in neighborhoods and selected areas of the city. Funding runs every two years.

Projects up for consideration include the construction and improvement of roads, sidewalks, parks, bridges, stormwater systems and public transportation networks.

The city says that projects can also focus on environmental benefits such as cleaning stormwater, preventing flooding, collecting rainwater for reuse and protecting natural areas. Projects that promote alternative modes of transportation like walking and biking, reduce waste and pollution and mitigate heat are also encouraged.

Residents can review and vote on proposed projects until Nov. 25 at 11:50 p.m. Twenty randomly selected participants will win $50 gift cards.

The city will prioritize projects based on resident votes and their potential impact. Winning projects will be announced in June 2025.
