Help for Durham renters has come — and gone. A program for those struggling to pay rent during the pandemic is shutting its doors less than a month after opening.
Reginald J. Johnson, Community Development Director for the City of Durham, said the program’s short life reflects the size of the problem.
“We don’t pretend to know all the answers to this issue,” Johnson said. “But what we do know is that amount of money that the federal government gave was fairly significant, and it was still not enough to meet the challenge.”
