Our newsroom moves to the courtroom

Starting Monday, The 9th Street Journal team will be relocating to the Durham County Courthouse so we can provide comprehensive coverage of one of the most anticipated local murder trials in the last decade.

Faith Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old UNC student, was found beaten to death in her apartment Sept. 7, 2012. The case quickly became a national phenomenon, as police released few details and years went by without any arrests or known motives.

Nine years after the killing, a DWI in Wake County led police to a suspect. Miguel Salguero-Olivares, a Durham man, was charged with Hedgepeth’s rape and murder.

9th Street reporter Sophie Endrud sets the scene with this detailed look at the case.

Beginning Monday, check our home page for live updates from inside the courtroom.
