Jillian Johnson worked for a more left-leaning Durham government for years before she was elected to the City Council in 2015.
In her campaign for a second term, Johnson continues to embrace the progressive themes that motivate her. They include expanding affordable housing; more eco-friendly planning and development; and more equitable sharing of public resources.
Critics balk at some of what Johnson has said and done when it comes to city police. They question her choice to share a campaign platform with two other incumbents campaigning to remain on the council.
Yet Johnson remains calm, confident and eager to help lead her city, 9th Street Journal reporter Cameron Oglesby reports.
