Durham voters expected to pick a new state senator on primary day

Yes, Tuesday is primary day in North Carolina, not a general election. But Durham voters will very likely select a new state senator.

Because city voters favor Democrats by wide margins,  whoever wins that party’s primary for state Senate District 20 will likely take a seat in the General Assembly.

Three candidates are competing for the office, which former state Sen. Floyd McKissick vacated in January after six terms in Raleigh.
